November DT Kit Part 2

As I said in my previous post - we were given free choice for our November DT kits and for the other half of my kit I chose various items from the Simple Stories 'The Story of Us' range. I used these papers and, of course, the sticker sheet.  The range is primarily yellow and gray, not colours I would normally scrap with but they really caught my eye when I saw them at the retreat.

I then set myself the challenge of using this range, which is designed to document weddings/engagements, for non-wedding/love themed pages.

I started by making two pages that feature a recent family visit to York.

The first shows the quirky shops we came across

The accompanying page was about having tea in Betty's - a famous York tea shop and I have to say the tea was absolutely delicious.

Next I made a page to celebrate the fun crafting weekend I had with a group of friends.  I love the photo on this one as it summed up the whole weekend. Although there were 13 of us all together only 8 were in this photo.

Finally, I made a page with a photo I have used before but one that I really love.  This has flowers and a doily cut using my Silhouette and a little wooden family from my own supplies.

So there we have it - mission accomplished - four pages made with a wedding range and not one of them about a wedding or love themed.  Just goes to show how versatile these papers are.

Websters Pages

I picked a fair few Websters Pages papers for my November gallery creations where Mel and Jill let us pick whatever papers we liked to create with. I already shared this page over on the Facebook group which uses this paper from the All That Glitters range.

It features a small square at the bottom left corner of the photo which is from this paper in Websters Pages Nest collection.

That paper from the Nest collection also featured predominantly on this page.

I chose a section of the patterned paper that was 4 squares by 4 squares and mounted this on a piece of kraft card and affixed to the centre of my background. I then covered 2x3 of the squares with a photo and layered over some of the squares with other designs so I kept my favourite elements visible and made the most of the images I liked, using foam pads to raise some up.

A couple of strips of washi tape at the top and bottom of the page and an embellishment cluster with bling and a wooden heart and this page was completed in under 30 minutes!

Other items I created using mostly Websters Pages can be found in our November gallery here.

Week in the Life

A few of us had a go at Ali Edward's Week in the Life challenge which happened to be the week over October half term.  You get sheets to print off so you can diarise what happens during the week, and the idea is to tell a story, note down the everyday things - almost like a social history - so you can take photos of what you eat, do, what's in your fridge - it's just capturing some moments in a little more detail and capturing the more everyday events.

I decided on a pocket page for a day (I have still to perfect the art of photoing pocket pages so apologies that the photos aren't that great).  I used more Simple Stories Legacy papers and cream card stock and lots of the Simple Stories embellishments too.

It makes you journal a lot - which is something that I am not that good at.

You are also encouraged to take photos of you - so that is me and my favourite mug and then the kids snuggled up watching a movie.

A few of us are also having a go at December Daily and there will be plenty of posts in our Facebook group on that - so if you fancy joining in to pop over to ATDML Create.

Also there are some new pages up in the gallery if you want to check them out - here is the link

Virtual Crop Class 4 - With Mel Hand

Welcome to the fourth class of todays Virtual Crop. I hope you have enjoyed it and that you will share your creations with us over on the ATDML # Create Facebook Page

My class kit featured the gorgeous Crate Paper Flea Market range, this was one of my favourite ranges for 2013 and so I was really excited to work with it. I created three full layouts plus a base page for a fourth layout. (For more info on what I mean by "base pages" take a look at this post from 2012)

Class instructions for todays class can be downloaded HERE.

We have a bonus class with Jane Hewitt at 6pm - see you then! :)

Virtual Crop Class 3 with Ann Freeman

Hello again and welcome to my November virtual crop class.

I have created an interactive page which can be simplified to just include a main 6x4 photo and a couple of smaller ones - or you can have a go following the instructions and create the page as I have. You can easily pull together your own supplies for this page if you don't have the kit - check out this post here or the instructions will also cover this. There's a bonus card project at the end of the instructions too.

To download your free instructions for this class click HERE. You can save these to your computer and come back to them when you are ready - even if you cannot join in today.

I hope you enjoy the class and I look forward to seeing your creations later on our Facebook gallery or leave a comment below and share a link to your projects inspired by this class.

Next class is 4pm with Mel.

Virtual Crop - Class 1 with Katherine Sutton

Hello - I hope you are enjoying our Cybercrop - I made a couple of pages with the Marion Smith Nirivana kit - though you can use other papers and have a go at some of the techniques.  My first page uses some white acrylic/gesso and then has lots of distressing and inking.

My second page is based around tags - there is a bit of dimension and lots of foam squares, and then an idea for using acetate and making 3D butterflies.

I'd love to see you creations - do post pictures, and you can join in the chatter on Facebook.

You can find my class HERE

November Virtual Crop Challenge

Welcome to your November Virtual crop which in true tradition we will start with a challenge for you. This should hopefully get you nice and warmed up ahead of the first class at 10am.

On this day, November 22nd, in 1963 the Beatles released their 2nd Album "With the Beatles"

To represent this fab four our challenge is for you to create a layout featuring four photographs.  It's that simple!

When you have created your page do share an image with us as we love to see how people's pages differ when all inspired from the same start point. You can leave a comment below with a link to your layout or share it HERE on our Facebook page ATDML # Create.

See you back here at 10am for your first class with Katherine.

Tickled Green

Bit of a cryptic title isn't it ! I am really liking the papers and designs Websters Pages are coming up with lately and when we were asked to make our own choices for our November DT kits one of the first ranges I went for was Websters.

I 'd seen a page with feathers all over it called Tickled and by hook or by crook I was going to make a page with it

I used a star stencil on the background which I inked through with Tumbled Glass distress ink.
The burlap stars and hearts are by Simple Stories and were another choice of mine for my kit.

We had a fantastic time at the retreat recently and I still have projects to finish.
One that I did manage to get done was Mel's beautiful Prima Cigar Box class here below.
We used paint and paste. We also stamped and embossed so it kept us busy!
I will post more when I've got them all finished as there were some amazing classes.

Mels Virtual Crop Photo Requirements

My class for the Virtual Crop makes FOUR layouts. Yes, you read that correctly, four! The kit was filled with lots of lovely paper and try as I might I couldn't help myself.

Obviously if you want to pick and choose one, two, three or four of the layouts that is fine. If you didn't get the kit this class will work well if you have a collection pack or quite a few papers from a range that you can use. My kit had 8 papers, 3 cardstock (2 grey and one natural) two chipboard words (photo and snapshot) a metal book plate and a roll of ribbon.

Layout 1
3 photos used:
1 6x4" landscape
1 6x4" portrait
1 4" square (cropped from a 6x4

Layout 2
1 photo used:
1 6x4" landscape

Layout 3
1 photo used:
1 6x4" portrait

Layout 4
This layout is a "using up the other bits layout" and could be adapted to suit 1 or 2 photos in portrait or landscape. I would recommend waiting to see what you have left from the other layouts before settling on a photo(s) \ size \ orientation etc...

More Prima Coffee Break Goodness!

Following on from ym post about the Prima Coffee Break class which inspired me to sit down and actually scrap while at the retreat (in my defence I wasn't slacking it was between midnight and 3a.m on Saturday night \ Sunday morning and no one needed me to do anything for them!) I wanted to share the other layout I made with this paper range.

I was inspired by the "Quiet Moments" wording on the background page as it seemed so appropriate for this photo of my daughter Isabelle and her two friends reading during her birthday sleepover. I had been rather suspicious as it was VERY quiet upstairs and I wondered what on earth they were up to. It turned out they were all reading their books together. (oh please let this continue - if this is as Rock n Roll as her parties get I am totally ok with that!)

I love that even though this range is coffee break themed there are plenty of other options - there is a sub theme of books and reading which I obviously used here, but also some bits that work for a general "relaxing" theme and some which are fairly generic.

Photo Requirements for Denise's Virtual Crop Class

We will be making two layouts in this class,if you don't have the kit then these are the elements you could gather together from your stash.

Layout One
One sheet of 12 x12 cardstock
Two patterned co ordinating papers with elements to cut out.(These could be flowers or biggish images)
One  patterned paper and one not so patterned - to create the background.
Little Alphas for title

Layout Two
One sheet of 12 x 12 cardstock
Two patterned papers - with smaller patterns

If you have the kit it would be helpful to gather the following tools.
Little heart punch - not the really tiny one - approximately one inch.
One and a half inch hole punch
One inch hole punch
Glossy accents
Ink - brown (I used Vintage Photo )
Foam Pads

Photo Requirements

Layout One
One 6 x 4 Landscape - mine is actually 6 x 4.5 but 6 x 4 is fine

Layout Two
One 4 x 6 cropped to 4 x 3.5 or 4 x 4

Not long now !

Photo requirements for Ann's virtual Crop class

Details follow for what is required for my virtual crop class on 22nd November 2014.

My class is an interactive layout that can easily be replicated with your own supplies.

To do so you will need a sheet of 12x12 white cardstock, a sheet of 12x12 brown or dark cardstock (which replaces this the Card Catolog paper in the kit) and a 12x12 sheet of cardstock that coordinates with your patterned papers. You will then need several pattern papers but I have used no more than 6”x12” from each of three different ones to create this layout.   Matching alphabet stickers and a couple of tabs/bracket shapes to lift the interative elements and you're away!  The class also features a card project as the kit includes plenty of supplies!

My photo requirements are as follows:
Main photo is 6"x4" with a smaller 3"x2" photo also on the page, both landscape.
If you want to include the interactive element and include more photographs my additional photos are another 6"x4" landscape, a 4 1/2" x 3" landscape (I trimmed a 6"x4") and there is space to include a couple of 2"x3" portrait photos also or additional journaling.

I would also grab a dark brown ink to use and a scoring tool would also be useful for this class.  Any questions, please do let me know and I will try to help.

Look forward to getting creative with you soon.

November DT Kit - Part 1

One of the perks, and there are many, of designing for ATDML is that twice a year we get to choose our dt kits.  For November I chose some Simple Stories (more about that in a later post) and some Kaisercraft Tropical Punch.  Loved the idea of bringing some sunshine into the cold winter days.

I chose these papers and stickers  - because we all know I am a sticker girl!

I was fortunate enough to go on a weekend away with some crafting girlfriends, last weekend, and was so inspired by the company and the papers I managed three pages on the Friday evening.

The papers were perfect for the lovely summery photos of my daughter and her friends but also perfect for the autumn famfie too.

Coffee Break Class times Four!

One of the many "Sold Out" classes over the retreat weekend was Ann's Prima Coffee Break class which featured one of my all time favourite class layouts. I was not the only one to fall in love with this class and many of those not booked on the class were rifling through the Prima papers in the shop to recreate the layout (including me!)

This was Ann's Class Sample:

and with their permission I wanted to share a couple of variations on the class.

The first one is by Sarah Keerie, she went for a slightly "cleaner" look with less of the gold spray but added a little more glitz with a few more of the Say It In Crystals coloured gems.

The next layout is by Tricia Edie and you can see she has added a large colourful title to complement her photo in place of some of the journaling. She has also swapped out the choice of paper for the frame in favour of a yellow one to work with her photos as well as adding some yellow splats as well.

Finally, here is my take on the class. I loved Ann's original and wanted to recreate most of it as she had designed it but I couldn't help myself and had to add a few chipboard embellishments (hearts, stars and arrows from the October Afternoon Daily Flash series.) I also added a little extra journaling in the form of a journaling card peeking out from behind the photo.

I hope you have enjoyed seeing the different take three people had on the same class. I was so inspired by this range (which considering I don't drink coffee or tea I didn't think I would be) that I have another layout to share later in the week using the same range!

This time last week

Well this time last week my first retreat class was over and done with and I have seen some lovely versions being shared. It is based on a simple grid of four pieces of patterned paper, one of which is suitable for journaling, and a strip of paper to hold the title. The rest of the page is a little doodling and some stickers. The image shows mine without the journaling on so delegates could focus on the design and not my random mumblings!

Layout two from this class was a minimalist page showing how to make the most of stickers left of a sheet from a collection and a few pieces of paper. I was again super impressed with the variations of this page created.

Again plenty of doodling on this page and a hint of washi tape around the edge of the page to pull out the colours in the photo if the papers don't do it. This is a great technique if you've great photos with awkward colours in. Scrap your page with neutral colours and then use small pieces of washi tape to pick out the colours in your photos.

I'm sure the other teachers from our weekend away will be sharing their projects too over the month.
