February Virtual crop class 2 with Crate Paper and Tricia

 Hello Campers, welcome to the second class of the day.  

This month I'll be using the Crate Paper 'Marigold' range to celebrate the relationships in our lives.  Whether it is photos of your Valentine, Galentine or your favourite sugary treat, grab your photos and lets go....

The Marigold range takes inspiration from the soft pastel pink and dark leafy greens with touches of gold.  Your kit comes with a lovely range of Thickers which you can use separately or build into groups and range of titles to suit different topics 

I'll be using the papers to backfill some flowers and butterflies to create features and accents across the 2 pages so click here to find the instructions.

October Virtual Crop with Ann

Class 12 with Tricia - The Italian Job

It's no secret that I love to travel, some people love cars, some love handbags - I love boarding passes.  So this Summer when my friends decided to guarentee good weather for their wedding day by doing it in sunny Sorrento, it was an extra special reason to get up and go.

While we were there we extended the trip and checked another bucket list location by visiting Pompeii.  I grabbed this great photo of Jamie and Calum posing with parasols on the streets of Pompeii which works perfectly with the pink, blues and browns of Crate paper 'Craft Market' range.  

In our house we live for tea, we've never been one for a cup of Joe.  However when you are in Naples we were assured you just have to try the coffee.  I snapped this great shot of Jamie 'enjoying' his espresso and teamed it with the coffee coloured paper in the range.

Back from our Retreat with BoBunny, Crate Paper and Shimelle

A Trip Down Memory Lane hosted the Autumn Retreat at the Stoke by Nayland hotel last weekend.  It was a lovely weekend packed with lots of paper and crafting and lots of laughter.  I taught 3 classes (kept me out of trouble) over the weekend, so wanted to share a page from each of the class.  

My first page is using the beautiful Bella Rosa collection by BoBunny - it has gorgeous teal/aqua colours in it and was perfect for some beach shots.  We also had a play with some Pentart products like the class beads and chameleon wax.  The glass beads just add a subtle sparkle and texture, and the chameleon wax gives a shiny colour layer to the cogs on this page (we used the blue one, but it comes in lost of colours).

For this page we used Crate Paper's Bloom collection, and a few BoBunny products in there too.  We started with some of the BoBunny crackle paste and also glittered the feathers using their glitter paste.  Misting, distressing, bit of punching and some beautiful Crate Paper stickers to finish it off.

My least messy class using the beautiful Go Now Go papers from Shimelle's new range.  The background paper is one of my favourites in this pack, so I took the challenge of using a busy background to create a page, and layered up lots of the chipboard pieces from this range to scrap some holiday photos.

June Virtual Crop - Class 3 by Mel Hand

Welcome to the last class of the day for the June Virtual Crop. I hope you have all enjoyed Karen and Ann's projects and the challenge from this morning!

My class used the Crate Paper Confetti collection and I have focused on layering and clustering embellishments to give a layout with lots to look at.

March 2016 Virtual Crop - Class 3 - Katherine Sutton

Welcome to the 3rd class of the day, using the beautiful Crate Paper Confetti papers and some pockets too.  We make 3 pages, I do cut the paper sparingly to achieve this, but it is possible.  There is also a messy page in the middle if you would like to have a go at that using gesso and yellow water colour ink or yellow distress ink - though you could change the colour to fit with the photo as the papers are fairly neutral.  The final page uses up all the other bits of paper and has lots of little photos.

Normal Service Has Been Resumed or Early Sunday Morning Ramblings

I have been experimenting with different styles recently.  Mostly prompted by two things - firstly my application for the Kaisercraft DT (which was unsuccessful but I am heartened that I got a thank you for applying email when I know some didn't even get that)  and as a result of looking at of their current DT's work I was prompted to try a little messy play and taking Katherine's class at the recent ATDML retreat - a bit of mixed media scrapbooking.

Secondly, I chose some papers from the Crate Paper Confetti range as part of my May DT kit.  These papers seemed to cry out for more white space  and so far I have made three pages with a less is more approach.

I decided that I like a bit of messy and will continue to experiment with that to see which way it takes me and white space is becoming less scarey.

But normal service has been resumed!

I used lots of layering,  flowers, leaves, little wooden butterflies and my Silhouette to cut the title.

I can't decide which style is my style at the moment as I like all three types of scrapbooking - perhaps I just like playing with pretty paper and sparkly stuff without a care for boxing it into one style or another.

I think I will just go with the flow and see where it takes me!

Virtual Crop Class 4 - With Mel Hand

Welcome to the fourth class of todays Virtual Crop. I hope you have enjoyed it and that you will share your creations with us over on the ATDML # Create Facebook Page

My class kit featured the gorgeous Crate Paper Flea Market range, this was one of my favourite ranges for 2013 and so I was really excited to work with it. I created three full layouts plus a base page for a fourth layout. (For more info on what I mean by "base pages" take a look at this post from 2012)

Just one colour

I hadn't tried just one colour in lots of shades on a page in ages, but I had noticed that they had a single colour challenge over on the crate paper blog (there is loads of inspiration and lots of different single colour pages scroll down and it is all on this page).  

I went with yellow as this was one of the first sunny (yet cold as you can see from the picture) days this spring.  I started using lots of mists for the background and experimented with crumpling up paper and then adding some stamping too.  The papers are mostly from the new Maggie Holmes range which you can find here, though there is some Farmhouse chipboard and stickers in there too and a DIY shop ruler!  I went from yellow to hints of gold with the sequins and polka dots on the tag which is from the DIY workshop ephemera pack (the ephemera packs are packed full of gorgeous embellishments).

Using a single colour theme works really well with mixing up using different manufacturer papers too - there is sill a rule I learnt from Shimelle that I apply when I do this.  When you look at the base colour to the patterned papers decide whether it is cream or white, so you can use all your cream bases together and all your white bases together.  So in my page I would say the base of the papers I have chosen is more white so I stuck to white cardstock and white based papers.

Trends on Tuesday - Ready for some Maths?

Todays maths lesson is the pie chart, though I do think it looks a bit more like one of the trivial pursuit counters with the slices of cheese.  It's a really easy shape to make - you can draw around a plate and then divide the circle into  however many sections you desire.  I decorated mine using my die cut machine and added text around the edge of my chart, but you don't need to add anything.  I have also seen other pull out a piece of the pie slightly, which is another way to try too.  I have used Crate Papers Farmhouse collection and also a piece of their Random collection for this page too, and the page is based on a sketch by Valerie Mangan for the Studio Challenge site.

So having used this shape on a page I decided to see if it would work on a card too.

I punched a one inch circle out of 3 October Afternoon Cake Walk papers and then just cut them into 1/6ths, I like adding them at either side of my central image as they almost look like a firework....a little burst of colour in the corners added to with the cosmic shimmer mist.  So instead of a normal circle, how about a pie chart ?

Trends on Tuesday - Chevrons

Chevrons/Zig Zags are still really popular, in papers and on stamps.  I used Crate Papers Farmhouse collection for my page (and used the negatives for my title I looked at a little while back) and created a rainbow pattern with all the different papers.  For my page I used a die cut machine to cut them out, however there are lots of different ways of making them.  You can just measure meticulously and cut your own out, or you can use this super folded chevron tutorial  by Julia Stainton which I love - here is the link.  Chevron papers make a great basic in your stash and lots of different manufacturers have them in their collections like Simple Stories here, so you don't have to make your own.

Hopefully that has given you lots of ideas to incorporate some more chevrons into your pages...maybe use them in this weekends Cybercrop too (so excited about it as there are lots of fantastic challenges and classes coming up)

Trends on Tuesday - Using the Negatives

Welcome to my next instalment of Trends on Tuesday, I thought I would have a go at something that has been building in popularity across the scrapping world....using up your negatives, all those off cuts from your die cuts or punches and making them a big part of your page.  Here are a few links to get your creative juices flowing from the October Afternoon blog (you have to scroll down to find the pages as there are a few pages in each post,  but I have put the page titles alongside the link to make them easier to find)

Alongside using up the offcuts of punches and die cuts you can also hand cut too.  Here is a page I created where I pencilled outlined the words and then cut it with a craft knife, so there are loads of ways of creating this effect.

Onto the example that I have for you today;  my page uses some of Crate Papers Random and Farmhouse collections.  I love the denim which works well on a boy page.  For the stars I just ran my piece of yellow paper through my die cut machine several times, and I used the positive stars to make a little banner underneath the photo.  I started the page by scrapping gesso across the background and then layered up and stitched my papers.  I stuck the negative stars down using some silicone glue so that it raised the piece off the page a little which gives a nice shadow too.

I hope it inspires you to have a go at using up some of the pieces of paper that you might throw away normally and turn the negatives into positives on your page :)

Trends on Tuesday - It's all about tabs

Hello everyone, I'm really excited to start off a series of posts having a look at different scrapbook trends.  They are going to be fortnightly on a Tuesday and look at some of the different trends in scrapbooking - from paints, mists, triangles, chevrons, hexagons.... - if you have any particular favourites you've noticed then leave me a comment, likewise if it inspires you to scrap a page or make a card then leave me a link as I would love to come and see what you have been creating.

I thought I would kick of the series with tabs, the tabs I am referring to are the ones at the top and the bottom of pages like this one which is up in the gallery at the moment (which is filled with other beautiful pages so here is the link).

They work really well when you leave a bit of white space on your page. I like to put them on a diagonal line across my page so that it draws your eye in and across the photo, rather than opposite ends of the paper.  Generally I put the top tab on the top to the left and the bottom one to the right, as this is the way we read in the west and so the way we tend to look at pages, however it can work the other way too.  They are a great piece of extra interest and a super way to use up scraps of papers that you have left over.  Just punch, cut, staple/stick and layer up lots of little pieces of paper/stickers/bling/buttons and you have your own ready made embellishment.

I also had a go at using some tabs on a card to see whether it would work, I used Crates Farmhouse collection for this birthday card.

 I uses the tabs to hide the securing for my garden twine, and used the offcuts from the bottom of the Crate's paper sheets to make the tabs along with a section from a border punch.
